Charles City County Land and Farms

Charles City County land and farms offer opportunities for investors, businesses and sportsmen looking for unique natural resources, a rural atmosphere and a great location. Situated in the Coastal region, land in Charles City County is adjacent to New Kent, James City, Surry, Prince George, Chesterfield and Henrico counties. The 204-square-mile area has 6,963 residents. There is some light manufacturing, but the combined natural resources-based industries are the primary economic engine of the county. It has an unusually high number of residents working in farming, fishing and forestry occupations. Farmland encompasses 31,392 acres with 66% use as cropland and 20% remaining as woodlands. Some farms along the James River have been farmed for more than 400 years, but due to no-till practices they remain highly productive. The Chickahominy Wildlife Management Area borders Chickahominy River and Morris Creek. It is a popular site for hunting during winter months and for fishing, boating and birding in the spring, summer and fall. Fishermen also enjoy the Lawrence Lewis Jr. Park on the James River where there is a fishing pier and boat ramp. The Fish Hatchery is a 440-acre site accessible to fishing and boating. Charles City County Public Schools provides K-12 public education.
