Botetourt County Land and Farms

Botetourt County land and farms offer amazing possibilities for both investment and recreation. The 543-square-mile county is located in the mountainous portion of the state, bordered by the Blue Ridge Mountains and Appalachian Mountains. The population of 33,277 includes a skilled low wage workforce. Located on I-81, Botetourt County land offers convenient road, rail and water access.  A high-speed fiber optic internet network, dependable power grid and abundant clean water supply provide the infrastructure needed to succeed. Botetourt is centrally located between three of the state’s largest and most prestigious four-year universities, adjacent to the Roanoke Bio-Medical research hub and home to a local community college network known for its advanced manufacturing and robotics programs, workforce development and community involvement. Almost 90,000 acres is devoted to farmland, which is divided almost equally between crops, pastureland and woodlands. Livestock and poultry account for 71% of the county’s agricultural sales. Fishermen enjoy the Upper James River where they can land small- and largemouth bass, redbreast and bluegill.  Nearby are several stocked trout streams. For hunters, there are 80,000 acres of national forest land that are open to hunting bear, deer, turkeys and other small game. Among its largest private employers are Dynax America Corp., Altec Industries Inc. and HSN Fulfillment. Botetourt County Public Schools provide K-12 public education, and Dabney S. Lancaster Community College offers higher learning.
