Pasquotank County Land and Farms

Farms and land in Pasquotank County draw investors and those wanting to relocate, in part due to its proximity to Hampton Roads in Virginia as well as the many opportunities within the county. Land in Pasquotank County includes 227 square miles of land and 63 square miles of water for a total of 289 square miles located in the Coastal Plain. The population is 40,000 including Elizabeth City, which is the largest city in the northeastern portion of the state. Bordered by Camden, Perquimans and Gates counties, the county is flanked by the Pasquotank River and Little River. It also touches on the Albemarle Sound and the Intracoastal Waterway.  Farming includes 72,000 acres, and crops account for 99% of agricultural sales. Another major industry in the county is lumbering. The biggest employers in the county are public agencies including Homeland Security’s US Coast Guard Air Station. Hunters can bag bear and deer, and some farmers create impoundments to attract waterfowl. Fishermen are attracted to catching largemouth bass, speckled perch and flounder. Elizabeth City, situated in the northeastern corner of North Carolina on the Pasquotank River and Intracoastal Waterway, is ranked by Money Magazine as one of best places to live on the East Coast. Public education is provided by Elizabeth City-Pasquotank Public Schools. Elizabeth City State University, Mid-Atlantic Christian University and College of the Albemarle offer high learning.
